Winds of change?

My wife just got a full time job starting Monday. Hopfully it's not too little too late but it's a start nontheless. On the down note I missed a call Tuesday for a union job (26$/hr start) at UW as a heavy equipment operator for a six month project. I called back first thing Wednesday but they had just talked to someone else that morning and he accepted the position.

"Missed it by that much" in a Maxwell Smart voice.

They told me they were very impressed with my resume and that I WAS their first choice. I appreciated the sentiment but it was insult to injury. Guess it wasn't the right job.

About tomservo88

Hello, i am a 41 year old unemployed construction worker and father of five and husband of 20 years from Washington State. I spent the last ten years working in the housing industry making decent money as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Due to the collapse of the market in 2008 my good paying job dwindled down, my car was repossesed and I began drawing unemployment to supplement the days off and lack of work until in July of 2011 the company was forced out of business. During the previous few months I was experienceing pain in my abdomen but was too busy trying to keep things afloat to pay it any heed. In August of 2011, one month after I lost my job, the pain became so intense that I was hospitalized and diagnosed with an Empyema (an infection in my chest cavity). Emergency surgery was performed to save my life and I spend 8 days in ICU & CCU recovering plus several weeks at home laid up. The hospital bill was $110,000 not including all the other services (anestesia, ect) and of course I had no insurance. I had drawn my unemployment down to the 4th tier over the past year and even was denied benefits for several weeks due to the hospitalization. This put me behind rent and in a constant struggle that I can't seem to make any progress with. Adding insult to injury my blood pressure is dangerously high (a pre-condition I've been fighting for years) making getting my DOT card to drive truck extemely difficult with no insurance. Now I spend every day fighting eviction and trying to save what is left of the life I knew just a few months ago the only evidence of which is the three children that rely on me for thier very existence.

The worst part of this story is I have no answer of hope to give them. I don't know what will happen to us.
